"The Gold Rush Adventure Challenge brings adventure racing back to the San Francisco Bay Area with a full day of navigation, strategy, and exploration across some of the most iconic terrain in California. Based out of Sausalito, teams of 1 to 4 racers will travel by kayak, mountain bike, and foot through the Marin Headlands, coastal trails, historic sites, and the waters of San Francisco Bay using only a map and compass, no GPS allowed.
This is a true rogaine style adventure race where teams choose their own route and attempt to collect as many checkpoints as possible within the 12 hour course limit. The race is designed to reward smart navigation, teamwork, endurance, and decision making just as much as physical speed. Racers can expect scenic and challenging terrain, route choice strategy, and the freedom to build their own adventure throughout the day.
Gold Rush is one of the longest running names in American adventure racing, originally founded by legendary West Coast race directors Adrian Crane and Mark Rogers. The 2026 edition marks a new chapter for the race, bringing together the old guard of the sport with a new generation of racers and organizers helping carry the torch forward.
Whether you are an experienced adventure racer, mountain biker, paddler, trail runner, or orienteer looking for your first AR, Gold Rush delivers an unforgettable day of exploration and competition in one of the most beautiful race venues in the world. Kayaks are provided by the organization."
