The CheNarr Adventure Race is a 12-hr event that includes mountain or gravel biking, kayaking and trekking to find checkpoints along the Harpeth River, in the Cheatham Wildlife Management Area and in Narrows of the Harpeth State Park. Racers will compete in co-ed or same gender teams of two to four that travel together along the entire course from point to point. Solo racers are also allowed at this year’s event.
The course involve paddling approximately 22 km on the scenic Harpeth River, ending in Narrows of the Harpeth State Park, which features impressive views, a unique tunnel through a cliff line and a waterfall. Racers will also explore the Cheatham Wildlife Management area on foot and via mountain bike. The Cheatham, despite being only 25 km due west of Nashville, TN’s downtown core, sees almost no visitors and is full of rugged and steep remote terrain.
The race is designed challenge the more advanced adventure racing teams, and we expect that a majority of the teams in the race will not have sufficient time to visit every checkpoint. However, most checkpoints (CPs) will be optional, with teams ranked by how many checkpoints were visited in the allowed time. The team with the most wins. If there is a tie, finishing time is used as a tiebreaker. Teams who cannot clear the entire course can still be official finishers.

The inaugural year of Adventure Racing World Series – North America circuit officially gets underway this weekend with the Extreme Break Up Adventure Race in Manhattan, Kansas, U.S.A. on Saturday, March 18th.
“I truly believe that adventure racing is the best sport ever invented and love that we can give back to our community by offering this event in Central Wisconsin,” said Tim Buchholz, co-race director of the Rib Mountain Adventure Challenge. “That we’re able to support student scholarships through the proceeds of this event is icing on the cake!”
The CheNarr consists of two events – a 12 hour Adventure Race featuring mountain biking, paddling, and trekking, hunting down checkpoints in the woods using only a map and compass as navigational guides. The second event is a 6 hour rogaine. The rogaine will have the same feel as the adventure race, but the event will be shorter and will be entirely foot travel to the various checkpoints.
