ABOUT US

The Adventure Racing World Series unites in competition the world’s best endurance athletes at the premiere adventure races around the world. The series includes Qualifier expedition races of 3-10 days leading up to an annual Adventure Racing World Championship, and Regional races of 12-36 hours offering an accessible pathway into adventure racing, and the opportunity to progress to expedition races and the World Championship.

There are currently 69 races in the Adventure Racing World Series, with regional races in North America, South America, Europe, Africa, Asia, the Middle East and Oceania. All teams taking part are included in the ARWS world and regional rankings. The first Adventure Racing World Championship took place in 2001 in Switzerland and this year’s World Championship in South Africa will be the biggest adventure race in the world.   • Adventure Racing World Series was formed in 2001— 22 years in existence.
  • ARWS is the biggest and longest running Adventure Racing Series. 
  • Each ARWS race is organised by enthusiasts who commit their life and time to the success of the event.
  • Each race has a different character thanks to the varied locations and each organiser's ideas.
  • 19 International Qualifiers from all over the world, with many of these events being presented for 10 years and longer.
  • 45 Regional events in 7 regional circuits: Europe, Oceania, Africa, South America, Asia, Middle East, and North America.
  • Annually a World Championship is selected from a list of Qualifier events that has proven their quality over several years. A bidding process applies.
  • This year's ARWC will be the 19th, with the Championship held on 5 continents. It will be the biggest Expedition race ever.
  • A comprehensive, international World Ranking system is in place for regional and qualifier races. 300+ teams from more than 40 countries are ranked.
  • Internationally accepted Rules and Regulations system has been developed with input from all race organisers and is officiated and regularly updated by a group of International referees.
