All Teams Home in 2005 Adventure Racing World Championship

All teams in the 2005 Adventure Racing World Championship have arrived home although some a little later than others. Cross Sportswear crossed the finish at 6.47pm and Sierra International at 7.58pm last night.But the Kiwi team Orion Adventure did not arrive out of the bush at TA 10 until this morning at 8.15am. They missed the after party function and are all in good spirits!
 

Merrell finish

Merrell Wigwam have made it to Tauranga Bay in sixth place.
 

Fourth and fifth are in

Port Nelson has finished the race in fourth at 4.21pm 22 minutes ahead of Swedish team Halti who came in fifth.

Event Information

 

The Location
The 2005 race will be on the West Coast of the Southern Alps. It will be based out of Westport and utilise the terrain of the Buller region


The Date
11-19th November 2005


The Secret Course
The course covers more than 400 kms and lasts six days and nights, NON STOP. The unique course will be kept under wrap till the eve of the race itself


The Disciplines
Mountain Biking, Kayaking (sea and river), Mountain Running, Orienteering, Abseiling, Rafting, Tubing, Caving, Rope skills ...


The Competitors
Teams of 4 multi-sporters, must include at least one women. Plus team assistants min 2 - max 3

AR World Championship - background In January 2001, international sport management company Southern Traverse Ltd, invited a group of prominent adventure racing organizers world wide to come together to form an alliance in order to

* Give true meaning and authenticity to the Adventure Racing World Championship by creating a qualifying platform through the series to find the best team in the world.

* The ARWorld Series events are independent, unique and reflect the individuality of each of the participating events and the sport.

* Promote adventure racing in individual countries and world wide.

* Create a world wide calendar of AR races, and avoid conflicting dates and locations where possible.

* Guarantee a standard of excellence in running professional and safe AR events.

* The first Adventure Racing World Championship was held in Switzerland 2001 with Nokia (Finland) winning. The second ARWorld Championships was held in Newfoundland 2004 with Nike ACG /Balance Bar (USA) winning by 20 secs from Cross Sportswear (Sweden).
