THE 2008 EDITION IS ALREADY TAKING SHAPE
Thirty four teams from 15 countries took up the challenge in the first week after registrations opened for the 2008 edition of the Estoril Portugal XPD Race. Eight months from the start of the race and over half the total number of the limit number of registrations are already filled.
Following on from an edition that was highly praised by all the teams that participated, the Estoril Portugal XPD Race 2008 is already drawing attention.
The reason why?The race will once again serve as a qualifier — not only to the winners, but to the top three teams classified — for the Adventure Racing World Championships that will be held in Portugal in 2009.
With more than half the places already filled, the organisers couldn't be happier.
“The numer of registrations exceeded all expectations, especially in terms of the diversity and quality of teams who are already signed up. Of notable significance, for example, we have two teams who have already qualified for the World Championships that will be held in Brazil this year: the Spanish team TEVA, who won the last edition of the XPD Race, and the Polish Team Navigator Suunto who won the Polish stage of the ARWS and are thus also qualified for Brazil”, explained Alexandre Guedes da Silva, president of the Portuguese Association of Adventure Races (APCA), the organisers of the Estoril Portugal XPD Race. “This year we hope to reach the total of 60 teams”, he continued.
And there will be an extra incentive for the teams to pass all the challenges. At the end there will be a lottery for all the teams that didn't make it to the podium, for a chance to participate in the 2009 World Championships.

This first information note is to clarify the rules about the lottery of the registration for
the World Championship Finals – ARWC Portugal 2009 and to publish the list of teams
that have qualified for this prize draw.
The rules for the lottery have been published on the website, and are as follows:
“All teams that register in the first week and that finish the race, but that are not in the
top three places, will be included in a lottery to win an entry to the ARWC 2009. The
draw will be made during the Estoril XPD 08 prize giving ceremony. ” |
